I have never been the smartest person in the room. But I’ve often been the most curious.
I’m especially curious about culture and have been blessed with a wonderful journey. A journey that took me from London to Switzerland, Hong Kong, South Africa, USA, France, Kuwait, Fiji Islands, Australia, United Arab Emirates, and finally back to the USA.
Every step of my journey, every country, every nation, every city, every person, has taught me something. I was fortunate to work with so many brilliant people of every race and religion and I’ve benefited from them all. I’ve learned that everyone has something special to offer. Everyone.
Curiosity served me well throughout my 35-year career at Hyatt—starting as a food and beverage manager in Nice, France and culminating in my role as Global CMO and then Global Leader of Key Strategic Initiatives. Not bad for a guy who never went to college! I’ve learned that possibility is endless, and a journey rarely ends where you thought it would at the start.
I have never been afraid to ask a question that might display my ignorance of a topic. I’ve learned that questions have a magical power to summon new ideas and more gratifying collaboration.
I’ve learned that it is our Purpose and Values that makes us who we are. My thrill is to help people and companies bring purpose and values to life—in everything they do. If you fancy a conversation about purpose, about leadership behaviors, or about how to build better organizations for the future, I’d love to talk!
